The Symposia Series
In our third year, we're reflecting back on the relationships, events and initiatives that have shaped the IPTC journey.
Symposia have become a defining feature of the It Pays to Care brand. These events have been open, warm spaces for industry players to share candidly about their challenges, and work together on sustainable, worker-centred solutions. They have been embraced by the work injury management and personal injury sectors for their much-needed future-focussed discussions.
Symposium Feedback
"I would just like to thank you all for putting up such a great and successful event. I definitely got a lot out of the content on the day and there was some really good discussions among the table groups as well. It was great to meet and mingle with the other agents and also hear from regulators, which I don’t often have a change to do. So again, thank you and well done!"
"I really enjoyed the last symposium and thought it was such a fantastic opportunity to bring together a diverse group of professionals from across the Australian personal injury schemes. Thank you to you and team for the coordination and consideration that went into this."
In 2023...
Our successful symposia series commenced! The plan was a trio of sessions dedicated to specific interest areas across a couple of capital cities. We had no idea the shift we'd be initiating!
- Psychosocial triage in Sydney - Insurers, regulators and claims agents gathered with industry experts to explore the foundational concepts of early psychosocial triage and matched care. This included the principles of triage, assessment and matched interventions, along with the role of the regulator and program evaluation.
- Influencing employers in Adelaide - An even larger crowd then gathered at Adelaide Oval to consider and openly discuss how to influence workplaces with effective RTW policies, understanding that employers are one of the most significant influences on successful RTW.
- Mental Injuries in Sydney - The prevention and management of mental injury claims was the topic of the day for the third symposium. Participant feedback requested further collaboration and follow up given the importance of the topic and the significant duration and cost of psychological claims.

We brought groups back together, and looked toward some targeted areas. We spread to the online realm, to the nation's capital, and to the west coast!
- Reconvening online - All 2023 participants were invited to an online follow-up session with a group comprised of insurers, brokers, physicians, rehabilitation providers, regulators, government, employers, and other interested RTW advocates. Discussions highlighted the great work being done across different corners of the industry and shed light on several spaces where further collaboration can flourish.
- Government employers in Canberra - Attendees from all Australian jurisdictions came together to discuss the roadblocks to reform, and the innovative solutions being championed across the country! Rich dialogues highlighted the immense value of cross-jurisdictional collaboration with participants seizing the opportunity to learn from each other's experiences.
- All things personal injury in Perth - Over 60 participants came together to share wisdom and plot a course toward practically realising the IPTC policy. Participants expressed their belief in the power of collaboration to transform work injury management.
In 2025...
We spread the symposium love to a whole new part of the industry! In May, we brought together Compulsory-Third Party insurance stakeholders for a full-day together in Melbourne. This session was really a first for the CTP industry, and participants went awaykeen for more opportunities for connection and sharing!
Is there more in store before the year's up?
